With a slower than expected recovery, Marquez failed to return to the track during the 2020 season. And was replaced by Honda’s test driver Stefan Bradl.

Marquez has been consulting with many surgeons in recent weeks to determine the best direction. Marquez traveled to Madrid for further consultation and the Spaniard had an 11-hour surgery on his right arm.

Marquez’s recovery is expected to take up to 6 months, which will leave him unable to start the 2021 season. Expected to start on March 28 at the Qatar Grand Prix.

If Marquez fails to enter the race to start the 2021 season, this opens the door for Andrea Dovizioso to make a surprising return to MotoGP 2021. Because Dovizioso chose to take leave after leaving Ducati at the end of the 2020 season. And he is not currently taking on the role of test racer for any team by 2021.
